The shot put at the 2004 Athens Olympics took place on August 18, 2004 in the ancient Stadium of Olympia. Originally, the launch of Disco would take place at this venue, but due to the advancement of brands in this specialty, it was decided to exchange the venues of these two specialties (Originally, only the sports practiced in ancient times would have this stadium as their venue and the launch weight was not part of them).

On December 6, 2012, Ukrainian athlete Yuriy Bilonog was stripped of his Olympic gold medal. Thus, the new Olympic champion became Adam Nelson (USA), the silver medal went to the Danish Joachim Olsen (DIN) and the bronze medal went to the Spanish Manuel Martínez (ESP), thus achieving his only Olympic medal..
