Angélica María Hartman Ortiz (New Orleans, Louisiana, September 27, 1944), known as La Novia de México, is a Mexican-American actress and singer. As a performer, she specialized in the rock and roll, pop, and romantic ballad genres.

Biography and career

Angélica María Hartman Ortiz was born on September 27, 1944 in New Orleans, Louisiana, United States, the daughter of American Arnold Frederic Hartman, and Mexican Angélica de Jesús Ortiz Sandoval. From a very young age she was close to the artistic world thanks to her father, who was a musician from the American Union. Her parents separated from her when she was just five years old, and her mother kept custody of her, to later take her to live in Mexico City. Yolanda Ortiz, her mother's sister, took her niece to a party where they met producer Gregorio Wallerstein, who told them that he was looking for a boy for her next film. Little Angélica María raised her hair and asked that it be cut, a fact that amused the producer, who invited her to participate in the audition for the film, which finally won the role in the film Sin.[citation required]

Little by little, his career consolidated, which gave him the opportunity to participate in the films A decent woman, where he plays the son of Elsa Aguirre and Rafael Baledón; The Other Girl's Daughter, The Lovers, Short Shrew, Follow My Heart and My Wife and the Other , a film with which she won an Ariel, when she was only 6 years old.[citation required]

In 1955, Rita Macedo called her to star in La mala semilla, which marked her theater debut. Until 1959, she worked on the films Sublime Melody , The Good Thief , Always Music , and Flowers for my General . In theater, she performed The song of the cicada , together with Manolo Fábregas. She consolidated her career by carrying out the tapes Under the Cloak of Night , Mr.... Storm and Death in the Ring . Thanks to her success, she became & # 34; The Girlfriend of Youth & # 34; and, later, the journalist Octavio de Alba named her "The Bride of Mexico".[citation required]

In 1966, Angélica María traveled to Spain and made the film Fray Torero, with Paco Camino. In 1967 she filmed, by the hand of José Agustín, what is considered her best film: 5 chocolate and 1 strawberry .

In 1968, he moved to the RCA Victor company, recorded a Spanish version of the Italian song "Cuando me enamoro." He ventured with four more albums. In 1969, she recorded two LPs: La paloma and recorded the LP La novia de la juventud . This LP contained protest songs such as "Adiós abuelo", "For you and for me" and "Dream with the truth".[citation needed]

In 1970, he recorded another LP with RCA Victor. From this album comes the song: "Where is our love going?, which was the theme of the soap opera Italian girl comes to marry. In 1972, he recorded his last album for RCA, where he included the song "What we know about love", the theme of the second part of Italian girl comes to marry. [citation required]

In 2004, he returned to the recording studios with Joan Sebastian, and made the album "Tributo". In 2008, he received the 2008 Honorary Latin Grammy Musical Excellence Award from the Latin Recording Academy, an award that is given in the category of special awards at the annual Latin Grammy ceremony, awarded to personalities who have exceptionally contributed to the legacy music and the field of recording.

In 1995, he did children's theater with the play La isla de los niños, and in 1996 he performed a role in Bendita mentira. In 1997, María suffered from breast cancer, and received treatment.[citation needed] In 1998, together with her daughter, Angélica Vale, she created the company "Producciones Angélica Ortiz" and made her debut as a producer on the musical comedy Cinderella.[citation needed]
