Andrés Ibáñez Province
Andrés Ibáñez is a province of Bolivia, located in the department of Santa Cruz. The city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra is located in it, (which is the capital of the department of Santa Cruz). The province has a population of 1,654,311 inhabitants (according to the INE 2012 Census), which makes it the second most populous province in the country after Pedro Domingo Murillo province in the department of La Paz.
History
Andrés Ibáñez province was created within the territory of the original Cercado province. This Cercado province was divided on different dates into five other new provinces, one of them kept the name of Cercado, until by law of December 6, 1944, during the presidency of Gualberto Villarroel, it took the name of Andrés Ibáñez.
Through Law 1522 of February 13, 1993, Cotoca is the capital of Andrés Ibáñez and the city of Santa Cruz de la Sierra was declared a municipality and confirmed as the departmental capital.
Geography
Location
Andrés Ibáñez province is located in the central western part of the department. To the north of the province it limits with the Warnes and Sara provinces, to the south with the Cordillera and Florida provinces, to the east with the Chiquitos and Ñuflo de Chaves provinces, and to the west with the Ichilo province. The height above sea level is 416 meters.
Surface
The province has an area of 4,821 km², and represents 1.30% of the department.

The province is divided into 5 municipalities, of which are: Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Cotoca, Porongo, La Guardia and El Torno.
