Andrés Mauricio Cabas Rosales (Barranquilla, October 7, 1976), better known as Cabas, is a Colombian singer-songwriter, whose style incorporates pop and Latin rock. different elements of the folklore of his country, taken mainly from autochthonous rhythms of the Caribbean Coast.

Biography

Cabas was influenced from a young age by the sounds of Barranquilla, he grew up in the midst of bullerengues, porros, fandangos and cumbias, with marked African mixtures; but above all because of his father, musician and composer Eduardo Cabas from La Espriella. He studied piano and practiced with other instruments, especially percussion. During his adolescence he was introduced to classical music, rock and electronic music that came to join the different rhythms of his country.

Career

His professional career began in 2001 when he published his first album, "CABAS", this work combined happy melodies with original lyrics as in "Mi Bombón", a song that consecrated him in Colombia and the world, occupying for three months, since its launch, the first place on radio stations and giving it its first Gold Record, followed by a double Platinum Record in Colombia.

From that moment his artistic career began to grow, receiving worldwide critical acclaim, and becoming the Revelation artist according to Billboard and the Colombian artist with the greatest international projection. He participated in large and important events and places such as: The White House, in honor of the Nobel Peace Prize Wangari Maathai, at Madison Square Garden, in Japan, Europe, Latin America, Mexico and the United States.

His second album was “Contacto”, a production that reflects his own style and gives continuity to his emerging career. The newspaper "The New York Times" cataloged it as one of the best albums of 2004.

With “La Caderona”, the first single, it reached first place in the Latin American charts and the video for the songs was released on MTV.

He was nominated for Breakthrough Artist at the Latin Grammys. At the MTV Latin Awards he was nominated for Best Rock Album, Best Rock Performer, the Peoples Prize and Best Rock Video at Univision's Lo Nuestro Awards.

“Puro Cabas” was his third studio album released in October 2005. Several of its songs were recorded at El Cielo Recording Studios, Monterrey, Mexico and were co-produced with Colombian composer Kike Santander. One of them, "La Cadena de Oro" remained in the MTV Top 10 for a long time. On the other hand, "Vámonos de aquí" and "Llega la noche", had the collaboration of the musicians of the American band The Black Eyed Peas and with the general production of the Mexican Toy Hernández.

In “Amores Díciles” (2008), her fourth album under the production of Carlos Jean, she collaborated with Enrique Bunbury and Orishas in “He Pecado”. “Bonita”, the first single from this production, broke records by remaining #1 on Latin American radio for more than 22 weeks.

His fifth production "Si Te Dijera" (2011), consolidated his artistic career. On this occasion, she had special collaborations with artists such as: Andrés Calamaro, Vicentico, Mala Rodríguez and Ale Sergi, from the Argentine group Miranda.

Later on would come “Incredible Pero Cierto – Grandes Éxitos” (2012), a compilation album for his 10-year artistic career.

With the disappearance of the EMI label, Cabas de facto became an independent artist and released the single "Que Prenda La Moto" and the video clip of him in June 2013.

Music for children and theater

He has composed and directed musical works for theater in New York, together with the director Jorge Alí Triana and the Nobel Prize winner Vargas Llosa, for the play "Pantaleon and the Visitors" set to music which earned him the ACE Award for Theater Journalism in New York.

He also participated in the musical creation "A Better World - 37 songs inspired by Gunter's Fables" naturalist work by the Belgian scientist Gunter Pauli, which included 37 songs in Spanish and English, a work aimed at children and young people to promote love and respect for nature. This project has been edited in different countries thanks to the interest of teachers and students.

News

At the end of 2015 he released the single “Enamorándonos” (APM) first in Colombia and right after in Ecuador. In both countries, the single climbed to the top of the charts becoming a hit on radio stations.

Cabas participated singing the song during the final gala of La Voz Ecuador in July and “Enamorándonos” was officially released in Mexico in August 2016.

The theme was included in the soundtrack of the Mexican film “Treintona, Soltera y Fantástica” with Bárbara Mori and directed by Chava Cartas that premiered in October 2016.

"Break The Levels" original mix of cumbia with reggaeton was released in the summer of 2017. This song was written and performed together with Descemer Bueno.
