Anchee Min

Contenido Anchee Min (閔安琪) (b. 1957 in Shanghai) is a Chinese-American writer, photographer, and musician. She lived in China until 1984 and currently lives in Los Angeles and Shanghai. Min's memoirs (Red Azalea (1994)) and her subsequent novels are both autobiographical and reflective of a specific period in Chinese history, placing a strong emphasis on female characters.
Min was sent to a work camp at age 17 where she was discovered by a talent scout. She worked as an actress at the Shanghai Film Studio and came to the United States in 1984, with the help of her friend, actress Joan Chen.
