Anastasius II (pope)

AjustarCompartirImprimirCitar

Anastasius II (? - November 16, 498) was the 50th pope of the Catholic Church, from 496 to 498.

He tried to end the Acacian Schism by trying to reconcile with the Monophysites who dominated the Eastern Church. To do so, he sent a delegation to Constantinople in 497 headed by the deacon Photinus, which earned him strong reproaches from the authors of Liber Pontificalis.

During his pontificate Clovis I converted to Christianity, making the Frankish people the first of the Germanic peoples to become Christians of the Nicene creed. A century before, the Visigoths and Ostrogoths had already converted to Arian Christianity, as well as the Vandals, Burgundians and Gepids during the V century. to the same non-Nicene faith.
