The flag of American Samoa was adopted on April 24, 1960. It consists of a blue field crossed by a white isosceles triangle whose base extends along the right side of the cloth and its main vertex is located in the center of the left side next to the pole. The equal sides of the triangle are associated with red borders. Inside the triangle is a drawing of the bald eagle, symbol of the United States and which represents the union of this territory with the United States of America. The eagle, in turn, holds in its talons a uatogi (maul that symbolizes the power of local chiefs) and a fue (a staff that represents traditional Samoan wisdom).
