Amancio Prada (Dehesas, Ponferrada, February 3, 1949) is a Spanish composer and singer-songwriter. His work as a composer and performer has always had a literary base that, throughout his discography, almost always monographic in content, has formed an anthological journey through peninsular poetry, from the songs of the first Galician-Portuguese troubadours (12th century). and Martín Gaite, Agustín García Calvo, Chicho Sánchez Ferlosio, Manuel Vicent, Léo Ferré, Luis López Álvarez, Antonio Pereira, Juan Carlos Mestre and Amancio Prada himself.

He adapted the Spiritual Canticle of San Juan de la Cruz for voice, guitar, violin and cello, an album reissued several times. In 2015, the Spanish Radio Television Orchestra and Choir premiered the symphonic and choral version of this work directed by Fernando Velázquez, author of the orchestration.

His professional career has earned him various distinctions, including the IV Centenary Medal of San Juan de la Cruz in 1991, the Castelao Medal from the Government of Galicia, the Castilla y León Prize for the Arts in 2005, and the Grand Prize for the Sacem repertoire. 2008, Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts 2010, Tenco Prize 2010, Galician Culture Prize 2019, VII University of Seville Culture Prize 2020.

Biography

He studied Business Sciences applied to agriculture in Valladolid and studied sociology at the Sorbonne University (Paris), where he also took harmony, composition and guitar classes.

Its presentation in Paris took place during the month of December 1972 with Georges Brassens at the Theâthre Bobino. His performances take place both on radio and television, as well as in immigrant centers and universities. In France he released his first album, Vida e morte . From that moment on he began a long period of album production, with numerous performances around the world. He returned to Spain in 1975.

He has participated in a large number of international festivals such as the Saintes Early Music Festival, the Maastricht Sacred Music Festival or the Ravenna Festival, among many others.
