Alderaan is a fictional planet in the Star Wars universe. Appears in the films Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope.

It has a benevolent and predictable climate, similar to our temperate Earth climate. It has wide and rich meadows. Its flora and fauna is one of the most varied, reaching more than 8,000 plant species, many with flowers. Despite not having seas, it has vast lakes and a frozen polar sea.

History

Alderaan was considered the cultural center of the galaxy, as prominent philosophers and artists came from there. Many artists looked to the ruins called 'Castlelands' for inspiration, the work of an ancient insectoid civilization. Its peaceful and respectful inhabitants of life live in advanced and beautiful cities with organic and artistic shapes, made with ecological technologies and super resistant polymers. The first human settlers were miners and well-to-do people looking for a nice planet to live on. The Organa royal family lived in Aldera, capital city of the planet, being the headquarters of the Rebel Alliance and attracting the attention of the Empire. Leia, the adoptive daughter of Senator Bail Organa, was raised on this planet, until her ship was captured by elements of the Empire. Abducted on the Death Star I, she witnessed the destruction of her adoptive homeworld as a display of Imperial power (0 BBY).

Pre-Humans

Alderaan was inhabited by the native insectoid Killiks, rather than humans. These creatures had created immense hive towers on a grassy esplanade that would come to be called Castle Grounds. Unfortunately the Killiks are extinct. There were about eight thousand kinds of grass on Alderaan and the best known animals that ate them were:

  • The Hierbers: They had six legs and lived with killiks and later with humans, who raised them on farms and fed them.
  • Slots: Allied herbivores.

Other animals included the glowworm fish that swam the rivers of silver and the thrantas (winged creatures used for transportation).

Arrival of humans

Alderaan was settled by humans 27,000 years before the Battle of Yavin and 2,000 years before the creation of the Galactic Republic. When the humans arrived, they knew only the industrial cities of Coruscant and a few other nearby planets. So they decided to keep the mostly green and blue lands. Not only that, they decided to build monument cities according to the beautiful landscape. The best known are:

  • Crack City: It was built in a cannon and simply carved or excavated its walls to introduce in them dwellings or towers with purple crystals according to the golden stone walls.
  • City Terranium: The most beautiful work of Alderaan. Expanding and sealing a natural depression was filled with special fluid that soon dried. Then from the orbit they bombed with precision lasers and carved streets and buildings. Finally they covered his work with transpariacero and inserted in it precious towers and needles.
  • Town Aldera: The capital. A meteor had opened a crater that became a lake. The settlers built an island in the center and covered it with green. Millenniums later Aldera was a green island with buildings in the form of cylindrical towers or in the form of domes connected with each other and with roofs sometimes flat in which other houses or gardens were inserted. To get out and enter the island, the city's underground roads were used and a highway was on the lake's water.

The people of Alderaan were known throughout the galaxy for their ecological awareness. It is the most peaceful society in the entire galaxy, they had neither weapons nor armies. Even hunting for sport was not allowed.

Alderaan along with Corellia and Coruscant created the Old Republic and improved it. Alderaan was ruled by a viceroy who previously served as a senator on Coruscant. In Aldera the University of Alderaan was established, an educational center that attracted other races to the planet, such as the Ithorians. Alderaan hardly suffered any mishaps in the story. He suffered a viceroy election problem in 70.0 before the battle of Yavin which was fixed by the young Jedi C'baoth and his senator Bail Organa lived through the Clone Wars and became viceroy after Palpatine's rise to power. When the world of Caamas was destroyed, around that time, the Caamasi were welcomed to Alderaan. Alderaan was part of the Galactic Empire and Leia Organa was a Senator for Alderaan, though they were on it only to try to resurrect the Republic. Bail Organa outlawed weapons on civilized Alderaan, leaving little trace of crime on Alderaan. In 3.0 before the Battle of Yavin, Organa joined the newly created Rebel Alliance with all of his planet. In fact, it was the most publicly active rebel planet. That's why Wilhuff Tarkin destroyed it with the first Death Star, as well as to get information from Leia. The surviving Alderanians, as well as their plants and animals, sought refuge on other planets such as New Alderaan.
