Aldeanueva de Figueroa is a Spanish municipality and town in the province of Salamanca, in the autonomous community of Castilla y León. It is integrated within the region of La Armuña. It belongs to the judicial district of Salamanca and to the La Armuña Commonwealth.

Its municipal area is made up of the town of Aldeanueva de Figueroa and the unpopulated areas of Cabeza Barajas, Lagunas Rubias and Taragudo, it occupies a total area of 55.64 km² and according to the INE in 2017 it had 263 inhabitants.

Geography

Integrated in the region of La Armuña, it is located 24 kilometers from the provincial capital. The municipal term is crossed by the Autovía de Castilla A-62 at pK 213, as well as by the provincial road SA-605 that allows communication with Fuentesaúco and Arcediano.

The relief of the municipality is predominantly flat, through which some streams run. The altitude oscillates between 936 meters (Cerro Castillejo) to the northeast, on the border with Villaescusa, and 850 meters to the south. The town rises to 871 meters above sea level.

History

It was founded in the XIV century, being framed in the quarter of Armuña of the jurisdiction of Salamanca, within the Kingdom of León, then called "Aldeanueva del Arçobispo" because it belonged as a manor to the Archbishop of Santiago. Within the current municipality, next to the old town of Lagunas Rubias, it was built between the end of the XII century and the beginning of the XIII a castle that was part of the defensive system of the Kingdom of León against Castile, of which remains are still preserved. With the creation of the current provinces in 1833, Aldeanueva de Figueroa was framed in the province of Salamanca, within the Leonese Region.
