Albert Wesker (アルバート。ウェスカー Arubāto Wesukā?) is a character in the horror and survival video game Resident Evil, developed by Capcom, in which he participated as the main antagonist from its first installment until Resident Evil 5.

He was a prominent enemy in video games. He began working alongside William Birkin for James Marcus, under the direct orders of Ozwell E. Spencer, owner and co-founder of Umbrella Corp. Under Spencer's orders, he and Birkin assassinate Marcus. After the betrayal that Wesker feels in Resident Evil 1 and Spencer's deception, he promises to capture him no matter what and take over his company, in Umbrella Chronicles he takes over Umbrella and In Resident Evil 5 he kills Ozwell E. Spencer, as he reveals the truth of his origin: A research product with the Progenitor virus.

Origin and characteristics

Albert and Alex Wesker are actually the only survivors of Project Wesker, a secret Umbrella project supervised by Ozwell E. Spencer himself, which consisted of giving life to a perfect human being created thanks to to the Progenitor virus. The plan originally involved creating a lineage of human beings, all of them surnamed Wesker, who would have all the necessary capabilities to survive the next turn of the century thanks to the Progenitor virus. However, the experiment was a failure as Albert and Alex were the only survivors, since the other infants died as their bodies could not withstand the dangerous virus. With the Raccoon City disaster, all data from the experiment was lost when the city was destroyed.

Albert Wesker is considered the quintessential villain of the series. His black clothing, along with his sunglasses to hide his identity, command respect. Wesker has considered himself presumptuous since he was young; cautious, manipulative and ingenious to evade and solve his problems with the various companies, which have given him certain deadly conflicts (Umbrella Corporation, S.T.A.R.S.) with the aim of creating a superior human race by bringing together different viruses; This scientist, ex-policeman and spy is fully immersed in the dark and dangerous plot of Resident Evil.

Wesker has considered himself presumptuous since he was young; cautious, manipulative and ingenious to evade and solve his problems with the various companies that have given him certain deadly conflicts (Umbrella Corporation, STARS, HCF). It was revealed that his goal was to create a superior human race by bringing together different viruses.

He is introduced for the first time as the captain of the STARS Alpha team. After entering the Spencer Mansion with the rest of them, he disappears to investigate. Then, he gradually appears to communicate with the protagonists - including Chris - and give them instructions. At the end of the first game, he betrays the surviving STARS and is subsequently impaled by a Tyrant (which he himself freed) and left for dead, but survives as he had injected himself with the G-virus. Finally, he dies in an active volcano in Resident Evil 5, thanks to Chris and Sheva.

Albert Wesker's plan

Albert Wesker was barely 18 years old when he was recruited, along with William Birkin, by Ozwell E. Spencer, a key character from the beginning of this entire saga, both being differentiated by the pragmatism of the former and the precocious intelligence of the latter. At the time, the only senior scientist was Dr. James Marcus.

On orders from Spencer, who intended to monopolize Umbrella and be its sole owner, Wesker and Birkin eliminated Marcus, with which the company was under the absolute command of Ozwell E. Spencer, who, along with the support of a team of scientists led by Willian Birkin, improved the effectiveness of the T-Virus by developing a new strain known as the G-Virus, from another improved strain of the T-Virus that they found developing in the body of Lisa Trevor, the daughter of the architect of the Spencer mansion, in the Arklay Mountains.

By direct orders and because he was no longer in a position to keep up with the level that the investigations had reached, Wesker was sent to infiltrate the Raccoon officer corps, promoted to captain of the STARS, to whom he most He later took care of eliminating it. He ended up risking his life and losing his humanity, since after the events that occurred in the mansion he stopped being a normal and ordinary person thanks to a variation of the virus created by Willian Birkin that allowed him, when attacked, to enter a phase of torpor from which he awoke with superhuman strength, and with the sole purpose of carrying out a plan that allowed him to take over Umbrella's mother experiment and pass for dead, but still retaining his intelligence and his audacity.

Albert Wesker is the key villain in the Resident Evil series and possibly the most feared, since he has in his possession the T-Virus, the G-Virus from which he obtained the samples from the corpse of Birkin, the T-Veronica that she took from Steve's corpse, although it is not known if she is still alive and an indispensable element: the antibodies that Sherry Birkin developed against the G-Virus, in addition to having her in custody.

6 years have passed since the Raccoon City disaster; Now Sherry is 18 years old. However, she has felt strange and Wesker has decided to focus on her even more since Resident Evil 4 in the timeline, in which through Ada Wong he obtains the Las Plagas sample since she snatches Leon S. Kennedy, obtained from the corpse of Osmund Saddler, acquiring a new addition to his already vast arsenal of viruses.

In 2009 (Resident Evil 5) Albert Wesker has a relationship with Excella Gionne. The last part of his plan was revealed: after knowing his origin and having killed his boss, Ozwell E. Spencer, Wesker has managed to create a highly dangerous virus called Uroboros, with which he intends to infect everyone and thus create a superior human being who will repopulate and dominate the entire Earth. Wesker is killed at the end of Resident Evil 5 in the volcanic area by 2 rockets launched by Chris Redfield and Sheva Alomar.

Wesker's Reports

The Wesker's Report are documentaries that were produced by Capcom to provide background to the events of the Resident Evil series, and are offered in various versions of Resident Evil Code: Veronica X. The Wesker's Report 1 video is a compilation of clips from Resident Evil 1, 2 and 3. They are narrated by Albert Wesker and, at the moment, there are only three reports. The reports are a very detailed explanation of the entire Resident Evil plot, from RE1 to Resident Evil Code: Veronica. They clarify many details about his past: how and where he started working for Umbrella, with whom, what he did after his supposed death, etc. His counterpart protagonist also explains that he began working on the BOW project in the Spencer mansion, outside of Raccoon City, in the Arklay Mountains. The first report goes into depth from his arrival at the Spencer Mansion to the destruction of Raccoon City, while the second report focuses on his past and that of William Birkin - who developed the G-virus taking the experiments and advances of the T- James Marcus virus—in addition to scrutinizing the experiments and research of the Umbrella corporation in Europe, such as the Nemesis parasite or the T-Veronica virus, and about which nothing was learned.

In May 1998 the strange murders began in the Arklay Mountains, the victims showed possible attacks of cannibalism; By July there were already nine victims. The population of Raccoon City was in an uproar when they saw the ineffectiveness of the police in apprehending the would-be murderers, so the elite police group, the STARS, was asked for help. Wesker, six months ago, had infiltrated as leader of STARS under the orders of Umbrella, and he was the only one who knew that the deaths were the work of the T-virus. On July 24, 1998, Wesker received a new order from Umbrella: "Send the STARS to the mansion, get rid of them and report the situation to high command so that their fight against biological weapons can be completed." used as analysis data. In this way, Umbrella better understood the combat abilities of its biological weapons.

Of the two teams, Wesker sent Team Bravo first, whose helicopter crashed in the forests of Arklay, so Team Alpha would go to the rescue of the other team without knowing that many of both teams would die: of the eleven members of STARS, only five survived, who sought refuge in the Spencer mansion. The surviving members showed their effectiveness by fighting against the biological weapons in the mansion; It seemed that no biological weapon could stop them. The only way to do this was to take them in front of the most powerful biological weapon in the mansion; that weapon was the Tyrant T-002. Wesker took the survivors to the Tyrant's laboratory. Before this, he injected himself with a sample of the virus given to him by his friend William Birkin; The virus left him in a temporary death from which he awoke with superhuman powers. In the laboratory he allowed the Tyrant to attack him to make everyone believe that he had died. In the fight between the STARS and this one, Wesker acquired information about the combat abilities of said weapon. He thought the STARS members had been killed, but they were not; They managed to escape by helicopter after killing the BOW; Wesker's plans had failed. In the end, he woke up from his pseudo-death to escape the mansion before it exploded.

Resident Evil 0

Wesker was sent from New York to Raccoon City due to his promotion to captain of STARS, the special unit of that town's police department. But in reality he worked with the Umbrella Corporation.

On July 23, 1998, after having sent Bravo Team to the mountains of Arklay, Wesker along with his colleague William Birkin had begun the acquisition of combat data. But the return of a "resurrected" James Marcus after having attacked the Ecliptic Express and eliminated its passengers. In response, Wesker and Birkin led Umbrella Security Service Delta Team in an attempt to retake the train, which ended in failure. As the two events, seen unfolding at the Training Center, it would be there that they would meet Dr. Marcus again, there they gathered the combat data of Rebecca Chambers and Billy Coen and their encounters with the creatures and BOWs that infest the area..

Wesker realized that Umbrella's fall is evident, and that it was the perfect time to leave and pursue his personal interests. While trying to return to Raccoon City to carry out the procedure of sending the Alpha team to the mansion, Wesker would encounter an old comrade named Sergei Vladimir, Spencer's right-hand man, Sergei sends Ivan, a kind of Tyrant-103 to finish off Wesker, but the self-destruct system that William Birkin activated to leave no trace of Dr. Marcus in the Umbrella training center, makes it inevitable that Wesker escapes after the place explodes.

Resident Evil 1

On July 24, 1998, Wesker would send Team Alpha to rescue his teammates from Team Bravo, where he was present to appear normal and eliminate any clues that could compromise his plans. Some of the members of the Alpha team took refuge in the Spencer mansion, ignoring the danger that was hidden within its walls, after fleeing the attack of the Cerberus, Dobermann dogs infected with the T-Virus, who were freely in the surroundings of the mansion and the forest that surrounded it. During the Cerberus attack, Joseph Frost of the Alpha team meets his death. Once inside the building, Wesker decides to divide the team. After the terrible attack suffered by the bloody canids, Chris Redfield, Jill Valentine, Barry Burton and Albert Wesker were the only ones left standing, in addition to Richard Aiken, Rebecca Chambers and Enrico Marini, from the Bravo team, whom they found during the long tour of the mansion. The Alpha team found the corpses of their lost companions in the corners of the mansion. They even found the dying Richard Aiken, who was attacked by a giant snake infected with the T-Virus, the famous Yawn.

Enrico Marini had discovered Wesker's plans, so he eliminated him as soon as he could. His plan was to gather battle information from the Tyrant, the strongest BOW in the mansion's secret laboratory. This was the big project to join another corporation along with the data obtained. He also faked his own death by previously injecting himself with a virus that William Birkin gave him. Actually that wasn't the T-Virus, but the G-Virus, only it wasn't fully complete yet. This is seen in the conversation that Wesker has with his colleague William who warns him that it may not be safe; exactly one day before the operation that takes place in Resident Evil Zero.

And what better way to see the Tyrant in action than the surviving STARS. Wesker even helps Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine so they can survive and get to the laboratory where he and the Tyrant would be waiting for them. This is deduced when the player returns to the mansion after eliminating Floor 42 and obtaining the last key that allowed opening the doors to the rooms that remained to be investigated.

Barry Burton played the role of traitor because Wesker was pressuring him with what Barry loved most, his family: his wife and two daughters.

Once the members of STARS arrived at the secret underground laboratory and learned more about Umbrella and its experiments and tricks, they met Wesker who, wounded in his pride and eager to free and put into action what he considered the definitive biological weapon, he released the Tyrant with the intention of eliminating them, but to his supposed surprise his creation turned against him. Although Wesker was sure of the Tyrant's victory, he underestimated the great potential of Chris and Jill, who end up destroying him and managing to escape from the mansion, which ends up exploding. Wesker, once recovered from the attack, manages to escape in time.

After resurrecting from his apparent death, he realizes that his grand plan has been thwarted by the STARS, having risked his existence and losing the data obtained along with the Tyrant; but Wesker would find a way to get revenge on them.

Resident Evil 2

It was thought that Wesker would have had a thorough involvement in Resident Evil 2 by personally rescuing Ada Wong (who is supposed to work for him or his new superiors) before the Raccoon City explosion. This fact is confirmed in Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles in which having succeeded in obtaining a sample of the G-Virus developed by William Birkin helps her escape, informing her of a route of escape, one last helicopter that would leave Raccoon City.

Resident Evil Code: Veronica

Albert Wesker reappears in this part, but this time working for Umbrella's rival company, the HCF (Hive Capture Force). His goal is to steal the virus developed by Alexia Ashford, called T-Veronica.

Alexia and her father are presumed dead in an accident years ago, with Alfred Ashford (her brother) being her best option. He runs a HUNK experimentation and training complex on Rockfort Island. The plan is simple: he raids the place with a bombing raid, spreads the T-Virus and unleashes his own biological weapons to search the place without being discovered in the chaos. During her tour she meets Claire Redfield, the sister of her hated enemy Chris Redfield; After scaring her he continues his search for her, seeing that her presence can be useful to him.

Sure enough, Claire and Steve show him that Alexia's (alive) secret hideout is at the South Pole. Wesker eventually finds Alexia and demands the virus from her, but she attacks him by turning into a fire-ant-woman, leaving the job of killing her to Chris. She refuses, calling him unworthy and attacks him with the power of the T-Veronica, the fight promises to be tough and to the surprise of finding Chris Redfield himself in the middle of this, she flees, leaving him to do the work for her.

Chris defeats Alexia and Wesker takes the body of Steve Burnside (Claire's partner in this adventure), which has been subjected to the virus as Alexia's experiment.

Then he takes advantage of an oversight to trap Claire and force Chris to confront him with the sole objective of getting revenge on him for hindering his plans in the past. Before beginning, he informs them that there is no problem in having Alexia exterminated, since he will take the T-Veronica from Steve's body and perhaps revive it so that it can work for him. Chris and Wesker confront each other, showing Albert Wesker showing off new superhuman powers. Although Chris buries him under a pile of steel beams, Wesker survives somewhat battered and after an explosion that forces them to separate, they both promise to return to account in the future. Wesker, his face burned by the explosion, manages to flee before the Antarctic base explodes.

Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles

This game incorporates several chapters of Resident Evil, Wesker having a role in some of them:

Albert Wesker appears here in some scenarios of this installment, in one titled "The Game of Oblivion"; where his appearances are in Resident Evil Code: Verónica and are technically overlooked except for minimal mentions, the other is & # 34; Operation Javier & # 34; ; where he is seen at the end of Krauser's bonus episode, hinting at how Krauser meets Wesker.

Operation Javier

In 2002, Wesker began his interest in South America. Wesker comes into contact with a man who is desperately seeking treatment for his daughter, drug lord Javier Hidalgo. He sold T-Veronica to Javier as an analeptic medication for a large sum of money and a share in a collusive business association. It is unclear what motive led Wesker to place the T-Veronica, whose ripple effect throughout the continent, in Javier's hands. Wesker appears at the end of the chapter, someone is seen observing the event from binoculars. Krauser wonders that if he manages to contact Wesker, he would regain strength in his arm; Wesker is seen retreating.

Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles

The entire game tells, from Wesker's point of view, the events that took place from Resident Evil 0 to Resident Evil 3 and what happened after. This also explores his rivalry with the former Russian colonel Sergei Vladimir, who always calls him "comrade."

In 2003, Wesker stormed Umbrella's final fortress in southern Russia, which was filled with the virus creations that Sergei had released, once again helping Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine reach the end., where they defeated Umbrella's ultimate creation, the T-A.L.O.S., the perfect and most powerful version of the Tyrant. Wesker faced Sergei one last time, who, by subjecting himself to a powerful virus, could transform at will into an extremely powerful creature without losing his reason or speech.

Wesker triumphs and kills Sergei, saves Umbrella's data on a disk and erases all information from Umbrella's computers, disconnecting the Red Queen, which was the central and main unit of Umbrella. Wesker led Umbrella to collapse, personally testifying in court against the corporation and establishing a worldwide manhunt for Ozwell Spencer.

In the end, Wesker, with the stolen data, plans to rebuild Umbrella under his command and prepares to execute his final plan.

Resident Evil 4

In this video game Wesker works in secret and his mission is to restore Umbrella (destroyed 6 years ago after the death of the Ashfords and Sergei Vladimir, and the respective destruction of its associated bases in Antarctica and Russia). To do this he needs Las Plagas, which he plans to steal from Osmund Saddler. To this end, he sends Ada Wong who had supposedly died in Resident Evil 2 to obtain it and Jack Krauser, who is already infiltrated into the sect that worships Las Plagas.

Ada and Krauser keep an eye on each other since they don't trust each other. It is soon discovered that Ada is the one who is playing dirty, because apart from saving Leon Scott Kennedy, she reveals in her report that she is working for someone else, a company that is also after the virus. According to this report, following the orders of this supposed company, it sends Wesker a package different from the one he expects, this undoubtedly refers to the T virus. It is also unlockable in the The Mercenaries minigame. In this minigame he has a technique called "Shotei" which shows that her superhuman powers are still intact.

Resident Evil 5

According to Wesker, "every day humanity gets closer to its self-destruction", that is why he plans to "save" the world by creating a new Genesis with an invention that has been created with the viruses and Plagues that he has been obtaining, which He will select, according to him, those who deserve to survive from among those who do not, giving them great power.

He now works with the pharmaceutical company Tricell, with Excella Gionne (head of the African division of this company) by his side.

After having obtained several biological weapons from the beginning of the series until the events of Resident Evil 4, Wesker manages to create, with the help of Tricell and the capital acquired from the sales of his viral samples, the Uroboros virus from the original parent virus. He also infects a part of Africa with the new Plagues for the protection of his plans.

In 2006, Wesker makes an unexpected visit to Ozwell E. Spencer, who makes an unexpected revelation knowing that he was at death's door: Wesker was not human from the beginning, and that he had always been human. a specimen for experimentation in Spencer's plans, since his body was used as research material to determine human resistance to the Progenitor virus. However, the experiment was a failure since Albert Wesker was the only survivor of it. The entire investigation was ironically located in Raccoon City having been lost with the destruction of the city. With all this dark revelation about his origin, Wesker, enraged, pierces the body of his former boss, killing him on the spot; as he proclaims that he will be the god that Spencer never was. When, suddenly, Jill and Chris, his former subordinates who had gone to arrest Spencer, came across him dead and Wesker watching from a distance. After a brief confrontation with her former Raccoon City police colleagues, and at the most critical moment, when she was about to kill Chris, Jill stands between the two, falling to the bottom of a cliff along with Wesker.

Despite this, this was not the end of him, as he somehow managed to survive, taking the seriously injured Jill with him and after subjecting her to the appropriate medical treatment, he cryogenized her to use her as an experimental specimen for the Uroboros project. However, luckily for Jill, the device that monitored her vital signs detected certain anomalies. Something was happening inside her body, and Wesker couldn't suppress her curiosity. Upon investigating the case he discovered that a mutant form of the T-Virus was still inside her. It was a remnant of the infection he contracted in Raccoon City (Resident Evil 3). The cure he received should have eliminated all viral agents from her body, but instead, it caused the virus to remain in her body in a dormant state. Somehow, after spending a long period cryogenic, the virus had been reactivated. Shortly after the virus's reactivation, it disappeared completely, although he left something in its place: Wesker discovered that Jill's body now possessed extraordinarily powerful antibodies. Amazingly, during all those years that the T-Virus had resided in her body, Jill had developed a miraculous immune system that protected her from any virus (including the Uroboros). This discovery fueled Wesker's ambitions, as he believed that Jill's antibodies could reduce the danger of the virus, so he decided to keep her alive to produce the antibodies necessary for research.

After a long period of research and experimentation, Wesker managed to perfect Uroboros. His involvement in the development of the virus ruled out Jill as a guinea pig for testing, as her body was protected by pure, unaltered antibodies. However, Wesker thought he would find some use for her another time.

After several experiments, Wesker decides to put his plan into action; Before launching the plane loaded with the Uroboros, he inoculates Excella Gionne to kill her archenemy and her partner, Sheva Alomar. In the vain attempt, the two BSAA agents escape from Tricell's tanker before she is incinerated, and encounter Wesker. After a small fight between the two BSAA agents and Wesker, the former inject him with an overdose of his antidote, which he uses so that the effect of his abilities does not turn against him. Then, he begins to suffer the changes, but after a brief talk he prepares to launch the Uroboros, and after a brief fight the BSAA agents manage to stop the plane by crashing it into the crater of an active volcano, falling near the lava. Below, they witness how Wesker infects himself with the Uroboros virus, transforming into a horrible beast. After the final fight, a piece of rock splits in half and Wesker falls into the lava. When Chris and Sheva are rescued by a helicopter driven by Josh, Wesker stops them by holding on to the aircraft, proving that he is still alive and seeks to destroy them. Jill gives them each a missile launcher with which they shoot Wesker and finish him off once and for all.

Other appearances

Lost Planet 2

In Lost Planet 2, Wesker only appears as a playable and unlockable character, both for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. Albert is only obtained in this game if you have a saved game of Resident Evil 5 or through the code: 72962792.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds

Wesker appears as a playable character in the fighting video game Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds. In this game he is one of the main antagonists. Wesker makes an alliance with Doctor Doom and other villains to unite the Marvel and Capcom universes, and thus be able to conquer them. But this whole plan awakens a much more dangerous force that could destroy both worlds. In the game, Wesker opts for his superhuman abilities, with melee strikes, his ability to teleport, and is one of the fastest characters in the game. His appearance is the same as the game Resident Evil 5.

Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D

His appearance in this video game for Nintendo 3DS, focused on The Mercenaries minigame, has already been confirmed.

His death, a legacy

Masachika Kawata announced that Resident Evil 5 explained the supposed definitive end for Wesker, but that it would not be ruled out that there would be successors who would continue his dark legacy, and among the possible candidates to replace him is Steve Burnside, a young man who was a prisoner on Rockford Island, who together with Claire Redfield decides to escape that nightmare and the Ashford brothers; Later Steve dies and declares the love he felt for Claire, however, Wesker takes his body and tells the Redfields that he plans to revive him to obtain a sample of the T-Veronica virus; He also said that he was going to work for him and that his men had already taken him away. In theory, Steve is in the same organization (perhaps the HCF or Wesker's other secret organization) at the mercy of his scientists.

Another possible successor to Albert is Alex Wesker, another test subject of the Project Wesker experiment (Project W28), by which Albert was conceived with the intention of forming "a new superior race of humans born from the virus. Progenitor". Supposedly, Alex worked for Ozwell E. Spencer in the search for the virus that would definitely grant him eternal life and, after obtaining it, he escaped along with the virus, leaving Spencer abandoned and with his days numbered. Very little was known about this mysterious character when he was named (named in files) in Gold Edition until he made an appearance in Resident Evil: Revelations 2 as the main antagonist. The hypothetical virus that she possesses could open new possibilities in a saga that, as Jun Takeuchi himself stated, is on the verge of a profound change.

In Resident Evil 6 his son appears, under the name of Jake Muller, who has Sherry Birkin (Daughter of William Birkin) as a partner. Although he does not seem to have evil intentions, he works as a mercenary for the highest bidder.
