Alain Connes (April 1, 1947 (age 75) is a French mathematician, graduated from the Ecole Normale Superieure in Paris, currently a professor at the Institut des Hautes Études Scientifiques (Bures sur Yvette, France) Professor Connes is a specialist in von Neumann algebra and was the first to successfully complete the factor classification of these objects.

The remarkable points of union between this object, the tools that he and his collaborators developed to address this and other problems about theoretical physics, particle physics and differential geometry led him to emphasize Noncommutative Geometry (name of his main book to date).

He was awarded the Fields Medal in 1982 and the Crafoord Prize in 2001.
