Aerobics in a gym
Aerobic exercise - public demonstration01.jpg

Aerobics or aerobics is a type of gymnastics that is performed to the sound of music, in a gym, a hall or outdoors. Aerobics brings together all the benefits of aerobic exercise, in addition to exercising physical abilities such as flexibility, coordination, orientation, rhythm, etc. The rhythm of the aerobics sessions varies depending on the age of the public that practices it. The songs used mark the intensity in each moment of the class. Aerobics should also include warm-up and stretching exercises. There are other modalities of this sport, such as the one practiced in the pool (it can be called water aerobics), the one that incorporates a low-height platform (step), or the one that combines aerobic exercises with muscle toning.

In 1968, Dr. Kenneth H. Cooper introduced a type of physical exercise to train the heart and lungs; he laid the foundation stone for the concept of aerobics in the United States. His book Aerobics (Aerobics) led to the gymnastic training of aerobic exercises. The first aerobics practices are related to the military field, since Dr. Kenneth H. Cooper was a doctor in the Air Force of the United States of America. It wasn't until the early 1990s that aerobics became the popular activity it is today.
