Aceralia
Aceralia Corporación Siderúrgica was the Spanish steel group that currently forms ArcelorMittal Asturias, integrated into the multinational ArcelorMittal.
History
In 1950, the Empresa Nacional Siderúrgica Sociedad Anónima (Ensidesa) was established in Avilés, established with the aim of reinforcing the economic development of Spain in the 1960s. On September 24, 1957, the first blast furnace was inaugurated Ensidesa, called "Carmen", in honor of Carmen Polo, who inaugurated it. This produced the construction of new towns near the Avilés estuary and the development of said city. Ensidesa became a very important steel industry after absorbing Uninsa de Veriña in 1973, made up of the Moreda Factory, the Mieres Factory and the La Felguera Factory (of the Duro Felguera company).
In December 1994, as a consequence of the execution of the AHV - Ensidesa Joint Competitiveness Plan, the Corporación Siderúrgica Integral (CSI) group was established, through the valuation of profitable assets, whose activities began in 1995. The reorganization of CSI gave rise in 1997 to the creation of Aceralia Corporación Siderúrgica.
Being at that time a group of public capital, the privatization process of Aceralia began, which has important milestones:
- Strategic alliance with the Arbed Group, one of the most important steel companies in the world,
- Acquisition of Grupo Aristraín, first Spanish manufacturer of metal profiles.
- Purchase of the Ucín Group, first corrugated round manufacturer and wire train.
After this process, Aceralia became the largest steel manufacturer in Spain, with a production of almost 10 million tons. Subsequently, it joins the Arbed and Usinor steel groups to give rise to the birth of Arcelor, one of the most important steel groups in the world. The integration project materialized on February 18, 2002 with the listing of the new group.
integrated into ArcelorMittal's steel conglomerate as ArcelorMittal Asturias.
