(986) Amelia is an asteroid belonging to the asteroid belt discovered by José Comas y Solá from the Fabra observatory in Barcelona, Spain, on October 19, 1922.

Designation and name

Amelia was initially given the designation 1922 MQ. She was later named in honor of the discoverer's wife.

Orbital characteristics

Amelia is located at an average distance of 3,133 AU from the Sun, being able to move away up to 3,765 AU and get closer to 2.5 AU. Its orbital inclination is 14.81° and eccentricity 0.202. It takes 2025 days to complete one orbit around the Sun.
