The year 83 (LXXXIII) was a common year beginning on Wednesday of the Julian calendar, in force on that date.

In the Roman Empire, it was known as the Year of the Consulate of Augustus and Rufus (or less frequently, year 836 Ab urbe condita). The designation 83 for this year has been used since the early medieval period, when the Anno Domini became the prevalent European method of naming years.
