(7742) Altamira is an asteroid belonging to the asteroid belt discovered on October 20, 1985 by Antonín Mrkos from the Kleť Observatory, near České Budějovice, Czech Republic.

Designation and name

Altamira was initially designated as 1985 US. Later, in 2002, it received its name from the Spanish cave of Altamira.
