• June 29: Rebellion of An Lushan (China) – An Lushan is killed by his son An Qingxu, who continues the war against the Tang Dynasty.
• 29 May: in Rome, Italy, Paulo I succeeds Stephen II as Pope.
• 13 November: Rebellion of An Lushan – An Qingxu flees Chang'an while the city is attacked by the imperial Tang.
• December 3: Rebellion of An Lushan – Shortly after capturing Chang'an, the imperial forces resume Luoyang, capital of the East.
