(6471) Collins is an asteroid that is part of the asteroid belt and was discovered by Antonín Mrkos on March 4, 1983 from the Kleť Observatory near České Budějovice, Czech Republic.

Designation and name

Collins was originally given the designation 1983 EB1. Later, in 1999, it was named in honor of American astronaut Michael Collins.

Orbital characteristics

Collins orbits at an average distance from the Sun of 2,433 AU, being able to get as close as 2,132 AU and as far as 2,734 AU. She has an orbital inclination of 2.674 degrees and an eccentricity of 0.1236. It takes 1386 days to complete an orbit around the Sun. The movement of Collins on the stellar background is 0.2597 degrees per day.
