(51829) Williemccool is an asteroid in the (2001 OD₄₁) series. It was discovered by astronomer Eleanor F. Helin from the Mount Palomar Observatory (California) on July 21, 2001, within the NEAT program (Near-Earth Asteroid Tracking Program: program for monitoring near-Earth asteroids).

Named in honor of astronaut William McCool (1961-2003), pilot of space shuttle Columbia STS-107 destroyed upon reentry into the atmosphere on February 1, 2003.
