(51829) Williemccool is an asteroid in the (2001 OD41) series. It was discovered by astronomer Eleanor F. Helin from the Mount Palomar Observatory (California) on July 21, 2001, within the NEAT program (Near-Earth Asteroid Tracking Program: program for monitoring near-Earth asteroids).

Named in honor of astronaut William McCool (1961-2003), pilot of space shuttle Columbia STS-107 destroyed upon reentry into the atmosphere on February 1, 2003.
