(5) Astraea is an asteroid belonging to the Astrea family in the asteroid belt, discovered by Karl Ludwig Hencke from Driesen, Germany, on December 8, 1845. It is named after Astrea, a goddess from Greek mythology.

Orbital characteristics

Astraea orbits at an average distance from the Sun of 2,574 AU, being able to move away up to 3,066 AU and approach up to 2,082 AU. The orbital inclination of it is 5.369° and the eccentricity 0.1911. It takes 1,508 days to complete an orbit around the Sun.

Physical characteristics

Its surface is highly reflective (shiny) and its composition is probably a mixture of nickel-iron with magnesium-iron silicates.[citation needed]
