The year 49 (XLIX) was a common year beginning on Wednesday of the Julian calendar, in force on that date.

In the Roman Empire, it was known as the Year of the Consulate of Longus and Veranius (or less frequently, year 802 Ab urbe condita). The designation 49 for this year has been used since the early medieval period, when the Anno Domini became the prevalent European method of naming years.
