(467) Laura is an asteroid belonging to the asteroid belt discovered on January 9, 1901 by Maximilian Franz Wolf from the Heidelberg-Königstuhl observatory, Germany. It is possibly named after Laura, a character in the opera La Gioconda by the Italian composer Amilcare Ponchielli.

Orbital characteristics

Laura is located in zone II of the asteroid belt, at the edge of the Kirkwood 7:3 gap, and takes 1843 days to complete one orbit around the Sun.

Physical characteristics

Laura has an approximate diameter of 42 km and an estimated mass of 8x1016 kg, assuming a density similar to that of (835) Olivia orbiting in the same region. This mass represents approximately 0.003% of the entire asteroid belt. Its albedo is 0.063, which is why it is very dark and it is assumed that it belongs to asteroids of spectral type C. Surface gravity is about 800 times less than the equivalent on Earth.
