The year 42 (XLII) was a common year beginning on a Monday of the Julian calendar, in force on that date.

In the Roman Empire, it was known as the Year of Caesar and Largo's consulship (or less frequently, year 795 Ab urbe condita). The designation 42 for this year has been used since the early medieval period, when the Anno Domini became the prevalent European method of naming years.

Events

  • Roman conquest of Ceuta.
  • Possible date of composition of the work From Re rustica of Columela, in 12 tomos; other sources say 65.
