38 (XXXVIII) was a common year beginning on Wednesday of the Julian calendar, in force on that date. In the Roman Empire, it was known as the Year of the Consulate of Julian and Asprenas (or less frequently, year 791 Ab urbe condita). The designation 38 for this year has been used since the early medieval period, when the A.D. era became the prevalent European method of naming years.

- Pitodoris (Esmirna, 30 B.C. or 29 B.C. - Sinope, 38 A.D.) was the queen and regent of the kingdoms of the Ponto and the Bosphorus for the death of her husband Polemon I, during the minority of her son and heir Polemon II, preserving during her life a great influence on the government of the Kingdom, and was also the queen of Cappadocia.
