26 (XXVI) was a common year beginning on a Tuesday of the Julian calendar, in force on that date. In the Roman Empire, it was known as the Year of the Consulate of Lentulus and Sabinus (or less frequently, year 779 Ab urbe condita). The designation 26 for this year has been used since the early medieval period, when the A.D. era became the prevalent European method of naming years.
