(24) Themis is an asteroid belonging to the asteroid belt discovered by Annibale de Gasparis from the Capodimonte observatory in Naples, Italy, on April 5, 1853. It is named after Themis, a goddess of Greek mythology.

Orbital characteristics

Themis is located at an average distance of 3,135 ua from the Sun, being able to move away up to 3,529 ua and approach up to 2,741 ua. Its orbital inclination is 0.7523° and eccentricity 0.1258. It takes 2027 days to complete one orbit around the Sun. It gives its name to the asteroidal family of Themis, one of the first three families of Hirayama.
