(2278) Götz is an asteroid belonging to the asteroid belt discovered by Karl Wilhelm Reinmuth on April 7, 1953 from the Heidelberg-Königstuhl Observatory, Germany.

Designation and name

Götz was initially designated 1953 GE. Later, in 1991, it was named in honor of the German astronomer Paul Götz (1883-1962).

Orbital characteristics

Götz orbits at an average distance from the Sun of 2,453 AU, being able to get as close as 2,089 AU and as far as 2,817 AU. The orbital inclination of it is 4.203 degrees and the eccentricity 0.1486. It takes 1403 days to complete an orbit around the Sun.
