(2050) Francis is an asteroid belonging to the asteroid belt discovered by Eleanor Francis Helin from the Mount Palomar Observatory, United States, on May 28, 1974.

Designation and name

Francis was initially designated as 1974 KA. It was later named in honor of Fred Francis and Kay Francis, the discoverer's parents.

Orbital characteristics

Francis orbits at an average distance from the Sun of 2,324 AU, being able to get as close as 1.77 AU and as far as 2,878 AU. The orbital inclination of it is 26.61° and the eccentricity 0.2383. It takes 1,294 days to complete an orbit around the Sun.
