(2047) Smetana is an asteroid that is part of the inner asteroid belt and was discovered by Luboš Kohoutek from the Hamburg-Bergedorf Observatory, Germany, on October 26, 1971.

Designation and name

Smetana was originally designated as 1971 AU1. It was later named after the Czech composer Bedřich Smetana (1824-1884).

Orbital characteristics

Smetana orbits at an average distance of 1,872 AU from the Sun, being able to get as close as 1,866 AU and as far as 1,878 AU. The eccentricity of it is 0.003401 and the orbital inclination 25.28 degrees. It takes 935.5 days to complete an orbit around the Sun.

Smetana belongs to the asteroidal group of Hungaria.

Physical characteristics

Smetana's absolute magnitude is 13.9 and its rotation period is 2.497 hours.
