2046 is a Chinese film (filmed in Shanghai), written and directed by Wong Kar-wai, released in 2004. It is a sequel to Days salvajes (in English, Days of Being Wild, released in 1991) and Wishing to love (also known as With the spirit of loving, released in 2000). It continues Chow Mo-wan's love life in 1960s Hong Kong and includes some sci-fi elements, blending genres in innovative ways. In addition to Cantonese and Mandarin, Japanese is spoken, and the soundtrack features songs in Spanish. The film follows the aesthetic line of the previous ones, highlighting the use of unique lighting, highly studied framing and hyper-slow camera movements, along with a devotion to decadently glamorous interiors.
