(1981) Midas is an asteroid belonging to the Apollo asteroids discovered on March 6, 1973 by Charles Thomas Kowal from the Mount Palomar Observatory, United States.

Designation and name

Midas was originally designated as 1973 EA. It was later named after the legendary Phrygian king Midas.

Orbital characteristics

Midas orbits at an average distance from the Sun of 1.776 AU, being able to get as close as 0.6212 AU and as far as 2.931 AU. It has an orbital inclination of 39.83° and an eccentricity of 0.6502. It takes 864.4 days to complete one orbit around the Sun.
