(1877) Marsden is an asteroid belonging to the outer asteroid belt discovered by Tom Gehrels on March 24, 1971 from the Mount Palomar Observatory, United States.

Designation and name

Marsden was originally designated as 1971 FC. It was later named in honor of American astronomer Brian Marsden (1937-2010).

Orbital characteristics

Marsden orbits at an average distance of 3,939 AU from the Sun, being able to get as close as 3,116 AU and as far as 4,762 AU. She has an orbital inclination of 17.56° and an eccentricity of 0.2089. It takes 2855 days to complete an orbit around the Sun.

Marsden is part of the Hilda asteroidal group
