(1790) Volkov is an asteroid belonging to the asteroid belt discovered by Lyudmila Ivanovna Chernyj from the Crimean Astrophysical Observatory, Nauchny, on March 9, 1967.

Designation and name

Volkov was originally designated as 1967 ER. Later, it was named in honor of Vlasdislav Nikolayevich Volkov (1935-1971), Soyuz 11 flight engineer, who died on June 30, 1971 during the return to Earth.

Orbital characteristics

Volkov orbits at an average distance from the Sun of 2,238 AU, and can get as close as 2,013 AU. The eccentricity of it is 0.1006 and the orbital inclination 5.111°. It takes 1223 days to complete an orbit around the Sun.
