  • 20 November: in the Netherlands, a cyclic tide exceeds the coastal dunes in Callantsoog (Den Helder), flooding parts of the north of Holland, Frisia and Groningen.
  • 4 December: in the present Spain, Alfonso X el Sabio, who in this year was Prince of Castile, conquers Alicante, who at that time was inhabited by the Arabs and his fortress receives the name "Santa Barbara" for being the feast of the day.
  • December 6th, two days after the takeover of the fortress, Prince Alfonso receives the keys of the city of Alicante so that San Nicolás de Bari will be appointed patron of the then Castilian villa.
