(12) Victoria is an asteroid that forms part of the asteroid belt and was discovered on September 13, 1850 by John Russell Hind from the George Bishop Observatory in London, United Kingdom. It is named for Victoria, a goddess from Roman mythology.

Orbital characteristics

Victoria is located at an average distance of 2,333 AU from the Sun, being able to get as close as 1,817 AU and as far away as 2.85 AU. Its eccentricity is 0.2213 and the orbital inclination is 8.369°. It takes 1,302 days to complete one orbit around the Sun. Up to three stellar occultations of Victoria have been observed.

Physical characteristics

Radar observations and speckle interferometry show that Victoria has an elongated shape, and it is suspected to be a binary asteroid. It is probably composed of siliceous rock and nickel-iron.
