(1136) Mercedes is an asteroid that forms part of the asteroid belt and was discovered on October 30, 1929 by José Comas y Solá from the Fabra observatory in Barcelona, Spain.

Designation and name

Mercedes was initially given the designation 1929 UA. Later it was named in honor of a sister-in-law of the discoverer.

Orbital characteristics

Mercedes orbits at an average distance from the Sun of 2,565 ua, being able to move away up to 3,222 ua and approach up to 1,909 ua. She has an eccentricity of 0.2559 and an orbital inclination of 8.981°. It takes 1,501 days to complete one orbit around the Sun.
