Jorge carpentier
Georges Carpentier (Pronunciación en francés: [ʒɔʁʒ kaʁ.pɑ̃ˈtje]; 12 de enero de 1894 - 28 de octubre de 1975) fue un boxeador, actor y piloto de la Primera Guerra Mundial francés. Luchó principalmente como semipesado y pesado en una carrera que duró desde 1908 hasta 1926. Apodado el "Orchid Man", medía 5 pies 11+1⁄2 pulgadas (182 cm) y su peso de combate varió de 147 a 175 libras (67 a 79 kg). Carpentier era conocido por su velocidad, sus excelentes habilidades de boxeo y su golpe extremadamente duro. El Sports Arena parisino Halle Georges Carpentier lleva su nombre.
Biografía
Nacido en Liévin en Pas-de-Calais, Carpentier comenzó su carrera progresando en las divisiones de peso, peleando en todas las divisiones desde el peso welter en adelante. Después de hacer su primera pelea profesional a los 14 años, fue campeón de peso welter de Francia y de Europa en 1911, campeón de Europa de peso mediano en 1912 y campeón de Europa de peso semipesado en 1913. El 1 de junio de 1913, venció a 'Bombardier' #34; Billy Wells en Ghent, Bélgica para convertirse en campeón de peso pesado de Europa. Defendió su título en diciembre contra Wells, en enero de 1914 contra Pat O'Keeffe y en Londres el 16 de julio venció a Ed "Gunboat" Smith para agregar el "Campeón del mundo de peso pesado blanco" a su título europeo. El intento de Carpentier por el campeonato mundial de peso pesado se produjo el 2 de julio de 1921, nuevamente en la ciudad de Jersey, cuando se enfrentó a Jack Dempsey frente a la primera puerta del millón de dólares del boxeo (aproximadamente $ 15,000,000 en la actualidad). Es autor de una novela de boxeo, Brothers of the Brown Owl: A Story of the Boxing Ring publicada c. 1920 por Cassell and Company (siendo un volumen en el uniforme Empire Library de Cassell). También apareció en media docena de películas, protagonizando películas mudas y sonoras. Hizo tres películas en Hollywood, EE. UU., una para el director J. Muerte
